Welcome

Thanks for visiting my webpage. I am a research staff member at NEC Labs America, and now I am also the head of the Media Analytics Department. My main research interests are in sparse learning, which aims to discover the optimally sparse representation of data. The concept of optimal sparseness is best described by the quote: make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler -- Albert Einstein.

What is new:

09/14/2012: I was invited to give a talk at Bay Area Vision Meeting. Here are the talk slides: "Building blocks in fine-grained image classification" (43MB).

08/16/2012: With Samy, Jia and Fei-Fei, I am co-organizing NIPS workshop of Big Data Meets Computer Vision: First International Workshop on Large Scale Visual Recognition and Retrieval (BigVision 2012).

06/26/2012: Two papers were accepted by ECCV.

02/14/2011: Two papers were accepted by CVPR.

09/10/2010: Our team, NEC-UIUC, won the N0.1 place in ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge. I represented the team to give the winner talk at ECCV workshop. Here are the slides.

09/01/2010: Our paper, Deep Coding Network , is accepted to NIPS. Here is the paper.
